Designing with Nature
About Daisy Christine Momin
Founder, “CHOKCHIMSA CREATIONS”
Daisy Christine Momin is more than just a fashion designer, she’s an artist deeply rooted in her Garo identity, someone who creates from the earth, with her hands, and from the stories she’s grown up with. Through Chokchimsa creations, Daisy brings together age-old traditions and a quiet, grounded sense of style that speaks of both the past and the future.
She works closely with natural fibres dying them with natural elements, and collaborate with local weavers to create beautiful fabrics. Every piece she creates carries the spirit of the land, the colour, textures, and stories of Garo Hills. But Daisy’s work doesn’t stop at fabric. She’s also a terracotta artist, crafting everything from sculptural forms to neckpiece, accessories, each one inspired by nature and her community’s traditions.
Her journey started with flower crafts for wedding accessories, then moved into bonsai and eventually terracotta. Overtime, she found herself drawn deeper into the world of traditional crafts, not as a trend but as a way of life. Even in the 90’s long before sustainability became a buzzword, Daisy was already working with natural fibres and ancestral patterns. In fact, her early work was so impactful that she received the “NIFT NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN FASHION DESIGNING” for the year 1998 recognition that spoke volumes of her originality and depth as a designer.
