Preserving Heritage Through Words and Lens
Ariba Anar, hailing from the Sangtam tribe in Seyochung village, Kiphire district, Nagaland, India, is a self-taught poet with a lifelong dedication to the art of verse. As an Independent Researcher and TATA STEEL Samvaad fellow 2021, Ariba delves into the crucial topic of the “Revival of Sangtam Naga Traditional Dress and Ornaments.”
Furthermore, Ariba serves as a Researcher and Photographer under the Sangtam Naga Documentation Committee, actively contributing to the documentation of the Traditional Dress and Ornaments of the Sangtam Naga tribe. This ongoing project is poised to be the first book dedicated to the cultural attires of the Sangtam tribe, a community situated along the Burma border, historically reliant on oral traditions. Ariba, a first-generation graduate from her village, stands as one of the pioneering individuals in the documentation of the rich heritage of the Sangtam tribe.
