About Karry Padu

Independent filmmaker, Writer and Director

With a degree in Mass communication & Journalism, Karry has done a diploma in Cinematography. After spending 4 years in Mumbai working in various projects she

returned to Arunachal in 2017. She has been Writing and Directing in the state ever since with more than 10 years of experience in the Field. She runs her Production house The Wild Flower production in Arunachal Pradesh which was set up on 2018.

Her documentary film, I am Property supported by Goethe Institute Maxmuller Bhawan, Panos South Asia and Zubaan explores polygamy and impunity in the context of customary laws in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The film has won the best Short Documentary film in Northeast International Documentary and Film Fest. It was also officially selected for ISTANBUL CROSSROADS International Short Film Festival, International Folklore Film Festival in Trissur. The film was official invite to the Indie 8 Documentary film festival held in Meghalaya.

Her first initiative The Vivid Project is a poetry collaborative with writers and poets from Arunachal Pradesh which sheds light on issues like racism, politics, and religion

and gender equality in the state. It was officially selected and was quarter finalists at the Lift off Filmmakers sessions at Los Angles in 2021.

Karry’s poems was recently published in a book Inheritance of Words – an anthology

of female writers of Arunachal Pardesh, edited by Padmashree Mamang dai and

published by Zubaan books. Her work has also been quoted in Resurgent Northeast a book by Ashis Kundra and various academic places.

Her documentary film Eak Nayi Daur on air gun surrender Abhiyan in

Arunachal Pradesh has received many accolades from the state government.

Karry has also worked with various national and international productions in the state and outside. She recently did the production for Brazil Based production SPRAY media in Meghalaya. She was the Local line producer in the National Geographic series Postcards from Arunachal. She also shot various patch works for BBC, NRL, Doordarshan along with various State and Central Government projects.

Karry is also the founding member of Arunachal Film Collective which aims on growing an Indigenous film language in the state.

Karry also runs her homestay in West Siang District Aalo and spends her time filming in the region.


About The Wildflower Production

A film and event-based production studio in Itanagar, the production house produces content and research based work for client. The Production also engages in events and various community-based events like poetry meets its annual poetry meet. For the Soul is an open mic poetry meet which encourages young poets from the state to write and share their work, while inviting established poets to share their work in the same stage.
