About Vasu Dixit

Vasu Dixit Collective
Vasu Dixit is a composer, musician in equal measure. His craft brings many nuances of art into one space. Vasu is the lead singer of the band Swarathma and also creates music of his own through the Vasu Dixit Collective (VDC). Vasu’s open-throated voice, his rich vocal style, wide range, and deep passion is powered by a free-spirited celebration of life, whether he sings with VDC, Swarathma or on his own. Vasu has also worked as an actor and film director predominantly in the Kannada movie industry.
About the Pa Da Project
The Pa Da Project is an exploration of different kinds of folk music in India. A collaboration with Believe India and Ishtar Music, along with Snehadhara Foundation, the PaDa Project is a docu-series created to support India’s folk music traditions. . The project unearths folk traditions, documents associated stories, situates contexts, and produces collaborative music.
Pada in Kannada means sound. ‘Pa‘ and ‘Da‘ are also two musical notes and ‘janapada‘ in Kannada means ‘words of the people.’ The idea behind the project is not just to capture the songs, but to tell stories of people of different communities and tribes through songs. It is Vasu’s exploration to find out what’s common among the different kinds of folk music.
