About Seela Abigail Lepcha
Documentary film maker
Project lead, Sungsa Lee
Pakyoung, Sikkim
Seela Abigail Lepcha is a documentary filmmaker and project lead at Sungsa Lee.
Through her work, she strives to conserve and celebrate the richness of her traditional culture using the powerful medium of visual storytelling. Deeply rooted in her heritage, she believes that film can serve as a bridge between generations—preserving the wisdom of the past while engaging the curiosity of the present.
Over the years, she has created films under the Habitat Trust as part of the series Stories From The Ground: North East India. These films offered her the opportunity to highlight the richness of culture and the importance of wildlife conservation. Some of her notable works include Indigenous Seed Keeper, Rong Voom Sa Ahallen, Sisnay Paa, and others—all available on the Habitat Trust YouTube channel.
She is currently working closely with the Lepcha community in Dzongu, North Sikkim, where she has helped establish a community-based Sungsa Lee Museum. More than just a museum, it functions as a living archive and a dynamic hub for intergenerational learning, cultural expression, and resilience.
Through every project, she continues to amplify the voices of indigenous communities, ensuring that their stories, traditions, and wisdom are not only remembered—but revered.
