About the Workshop
Indigenous communities hold centuries of knowledge, memory, and identity — yet our stories are often told by others. The filmmaking workshop Documenting Our Own Tribal Culture gives tribal youth the tools to change that. Through hands-on learning in visual storytelling, mobile cinematography, documentary observation, and basic editing, participants will gain the skills to record, preserve, and share our lived cultural knowledge with dignity and accuracy.
This workshop is especially relevant today, as Indigenous peoples across the world assert their right to authorship and narrative sovereignty. When young people document the songs, festivals, crafts, landscapes, and everyday wisdom of their communities, it strengthens cultural pride and ensures these stories continue to inspire future generations.
Location: Ranchi, Jharkhand
Dates: 29 November – 6 December 2025
Workshop Mentors:
• Atul Badole — Filmmaker & Editor, Pune, Maharashtra
• Sneha Mundari — Filmmaker, Munda Indigenous community, Rourkela, Odisha
This is more than a filmmaking workshop — it is a step toward reclaiming who tells our stories, how we are seen, and what legacy we leave behind.
