About Dr Esther Syiem
Dr Esther Syiem, a bilingual writer, is a retired Professor of English at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. She has been involved in the study of Khasi folk literature for more than two decades now. Her publications include three volumes of poetry – Oral Scriptings; of follies and frailties of wit and wisdom; Many Sides of Many Stories, Ka Nam, a play in Khasi, and a critical work entitled The Oral Discourse in Khasi Folk Narrative. She is a member of the National Editorial Collective of the People’s Linguistic Survey of India and has co-edited volumes of The Languages of Meghalaya. She has also translated Khasi folktales with Tulika publications and Sauramandala. Her book of short fiction is called Memoir in Water Speaks the Wah Umkhrah.
